An increase in ratings for the third episode of “The World According to Paris”
As we all know, the premiere episode of “The World According to Paris” attracted 409,000 viewers and set a record for being the highest Wednesday series premiere on Oxygen. However, the ratings for the second episode (Brooke’s Breakdown) plummeted to 227,000 viewers. The good news is that this week’s fun episode (Vegas Virgin) managed to attract 349,000 viewers, which is a remarkable increase from last week’s ratings.
Is it possible that people are finally getting to used to the show? By the way, the first and third episodes attracted the same number of viewers in the 18-49 category (200,000 viewers).

Just give it some time for the show to get established.
I don’t know what the average numbers are for Oxygen viewers on Wednesday nights or any other weeknights.
That would matter for a comparison.
The Kardashians had 6 years to build up viewers. I’m sure they started with very small numbers at first.

And the main reason they have such small numbers is because Oxygen isn’t really a mainstream station. It’s an extra. I didn’t have Oxygen until I heard that’s what her show would be airing on. Channels like MTV and E! are a bit more common.

I think, the norm is 300,000 viewers for Oxygen. That’s the amount of viewers that the Tori & Dean show usually attracts. It shouldn’t go any lower than that.

Then Paris is within the acceptable range.
Fluctuations are to be expected with any show.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Oxygen made a longterm commitment, having small but steady growth in mind.
I think it would be great to be able to tune in each Wednesday night to see what the Hiltons are up to.
After a while, it’s like watching your own family on TV. Very soothing and reassuring.

I also like all the commercials in between the Paris show. They are hip and smart.
Usually, I tune out the commercials but in this case I enjoy watching them.

How was the rating for AUBREY O DAYS show on Oxygen? I know that the first episode had 700.000 viewers or something but the rest? Nobody talked about her show anyway.

Actually, that show performed better.
Ep3: 551K
Ep4: 552K
Ep6 (finale): 571K
One of the episodes got 300K, but it was because of an airing time issue.

Ok, I just don´t get it. Paris is much more famous and I didn´t even know who Aubrey was before her show….I just hope Paris show will get better ratings so Oxygen will do a season 2

Kardashians first season was 1.3 million viewers and it continued to go up. Im sure Paris’s show will do the same, just because it wont be in the millions doesnt mean its not good. If Oxygen would just get rid of the baby voice narrations that paris makes during the episodes, i think people would accept it more. She seemed more like herself in Simple Life season 1….even if she says she was playing a character. Her voice was deep and she had no shame. Thats the Paris people want to see. Not the girl who lets her friends yell and demean her assistant. it just doesnt shed a good light. I hope it gets better. The next one looks crazy good i must say!

Backhanded compliments. It’s always funny when haters disguise themselves.
Kim’s voice is much worse and E is a bigger channel.

Jen, not all fans have to blindly worship & agree with 120% of everything Paris does. They’re free to have opinions. They are not haters & I’m sick & tired of you carrying on about it. Grow up!

Agreed, Benji. It is sickening that anyone who expresses the slightest criticism is branded a hater, no matter how much good things they also say or the fact that they might have a good point. Some fans are exactly like the haters, blind to anyone else’s opinion and completely tunnel vision and just as pointless to discuss anything with rationally.
I also think that Paris showed many good qualities in The Simple Life. She was sweet, unassuming, down to earth, friendly, genuinely happy to meet new people and help people when she could. That and the fact that she was actually doing things like movies and music, was a big part of why some of us became fans in the first place. If I had no idea who Paris was already, this new show certainly wouldn’t make me a fan (and neither would the hatred and intolerance that some of her fans show for others).

Oh dear.
Please read again – very carefully – what ” Cece” wrote, until you get the actual gist of what she is saying.
Writing a text in complimentary form while dishing out insults is an old trick.
It is for this reason that full text comprehension is so important and stressed in all top schools.
Good text comprehension is an absolute MUST in certain professions such as law, medicine and business etc

And btw no one expects Paris to be perfect, least of all her fans.
I have stressed repeatedly that she is human and has the right to be so.

ummmmm Jen you have way to much time on your hands, and if Paris isnt perfect then im sure constructive criticism wont hurt her. Lets be real, we are talking about why people may not like her show…. I dont see where I insult her…all i said was that people would accept the show if she would act like she did in the simple life. And the show doesnt shed a good light by showing partying and all of paris’s friends acting rude to people. I like and already have accepted paris but im throwing out why other people arent accepting her….seeing how this is a topic about her ratings.
Just like Shoshana said, if she didnt know Paris she wouldnt be a fan either.
Jen…accepting that others have opinions and not to insult ones opinion is also stressed at top schools….you wouldnt last in forensic psychology.

I have always liked teh Simple Life adn as I’ve said before on this site, I don’t like it when Paris distances herself from that show. it was good. She should just own it and be proud of it.
Also, she was younger then and it was one of the first successful network reality shows, so no shame.
IMO i just think she should do good work now and quit trying to change teh genreral public’s opinion of her by going on about how she was duped by producers to act bratty otr shildish in SL or wringing her hands about the infamous sex tape. Some time it’s just better to move on, do good work and not keep bringing up the past.
Also, does anybody else think that the dip in ratings between episonde 1 & 2 could be attributed to the pubilicity junkets back-firing on paris, like barabra walters harsh comments on the view? perhaps that dissuaded viewers from watching episode 2? especially since, and it pains me to say this becasue i think babs w. was out of line to attack paris, but it remains that the questions babs W. asked seem to be what a lot of people wonder about paris but just never ask, ie. paris made the promise to work with female prisoners, but has never followed through.
To me it seems that paris says alot of things that builds expectatins and then she doesn’t deliver. maybe she should not mention a project until she is ready to take action. otehrwise she comes accross as all talk.

Your comments were very thoughtful, Cece. You gave your own opinions and thoughts, rather than just the insulting other people method that some prefer. I can agree about not being keen on the narration (which is where Paris does a lot of her insulting comments) and preferring the sweet, charming, fun, friendly girl from The Simple Life. I’ve watched three episodes of this show and just don’t like it or how Paris comes across in it at all.
People like Jen will probably call me a hater for that, but I’m not. I despise the people who wish death on Paris or call her horrible names. I have no reason to hate someone who isn’t doing anyone else any harm, but this show gives me no reason to be a fan or remember why I ever was. If Paris does something good, then I will give her credit for it, but for now I’m done with her (and will only be visiting her community to check in with my friend Ed).
And for those who will label me as a hater, despite anything I’ve said (because that’s the only way they can rationalise anyone not liking this show), I offer the following links to what I’ve said in the past about Paris (including where Paris favorited one of my poems on her community):

juju,
No, Barbara’s comments were made before the airing of the premiere episode. It could be because of the massive bad publicity that the show got after the first episode, or maybe the “wrong type” of people tuned in to watch it and figured that it wasn’t their type of show. I don’t know.
What I find interesting is how the number increased for the third episode. Let’s see how the fourth one does. It’s a great show, but it’s a shame that more people aren’t watching it!

What I want to know about the ratings is how are they determined? Is it based on how many people tune in to watch the show in general when it premieres regardless of the time, or is it just how many people watched during its official timeslot at 10? Because if it’s just based on how many people watch at 10, that might explain why the ratings are low, because it doesn’t play at 10 everywhere. In any event, the show is still new and it’s on a small network.Hopefully over time the ratings will go up. I really want there to be a second season, but as some people have said before, I hope that they remove the scripted commentary.
