Subject: Views on British Best Friend?

So what did people think? I'm a Brit and I'd never sen the American version, and I thought it was amazing! It reminded me a lot of 'the Apprentice', which was one of my favoutite shows anyway, but with the huge difference of Paris as the judge / jury / final 'prize' instead of Sir Alan Sugar.
Personally, I couldn't think of much worse than working for the grim and humourless 'Mr' Sugar... whereas being Paris' BF? Dream come true, obviously!

It was really quite emotional, too, at the end of the show. I really quite liked Jade - she seemed so sweet and so genuine. I felt really bad for her, but I guess really I can see it's the right decision. She mybe doesn't have the strength of character to deal with the pressure of Paris' world. And she did let herself down on the makeover task. If you want to be Paris' friend, I think you have to accept and embrace her vision of who you are and how you should look, and she couldn't do that.

I thought the girl (Laura was it?) who won the first challenge came across well. The way she talked to Paris in the car before the red carpet seemed very natural and genuine. I like her. I like the gay guy Samuel, too. He's got the mega enthusiasm of a true fan, and he wants this so much.

The one I really don't like is Ola, who already seems to admitting she's in it more for the fame than for Paris - exactly the kind of girl Paris says she's trying to avoid. The one with the annoying laugh has to go, too. I'm sure she's nice, but I think that laugh will just get on Paris' nerves.

It really is a great format and a fantastic show, and I'm so looking forward to following it over the next couple of months. Especially as you always learn more about the contestants' personalities as these things go on, and decide who you're supporting in the eliminations and who you're not. It's such an amazing prize, to be friends with Paris, and you hope it goes to someone who really deserves it and will be a true friend to her!

I'll probably watch it today or tomorrow, but I haven't seen it yet.

I liked some things about the US verson. The first episode of that one seemed a bit harsh to me, like Paris was playing one of her bitchy movie or TV roles, but she become more like the sweeter Paris as the show went on. Ultimately though, the show was ruined a bit for me in the last episode when the girl who eventually won just made me strongly dislike her attitude and personality and I ended up feeling a sour taste at the end, like the meanest girl had won and was being rewarded for her bad attitude. It kind of made me wish I either hadn't watched the series.

I can understand people being uncomfortable with the idea of makeovers. It sounds like a judgement that there is something wrong with you and a lot of people may feel that how they look or dress is part of their identity. Paris probably wouldn't feel too comfortable in the same position. The same thing happened in the first episode of the US version. I know Paris means well for the contestants but I think in some cases she just couldn't see how it might feel from the other side.

Now that I've seen the episode, I liked it. I think they learnt a few things from the US series, as we see more of Paris like her real self compared to the first episode of the US version, and the bitchy act that she used early in that version is gone. I like that Paris stated within the episode that doing the eliminations is never easy for her.

It was sort of like The Simple Life at the beginning, opening with Paris saying goodbye to friends and throwing a party (and some obvious humour in her sending up her lifestyle a bit). It was cute to see Paris with the Sheens (obviously the night they made that presidential video together).

So far I don't hate anyone on the show. Jade was a good choice for elimination as it seemed to do her a favour - she was obviously very homesick and not happy. I felt sorry for that girl taking unwell and needing hospital.

I have just read Paris' personal response to you. Your appreciating her album probably made her happy and grateful.
Are there really people posting hateful messages on MySpace? What is it about haters that motivate them to post hateful messages everywhere, in TMZ, PerezHilton, X17, EOnline, and many others. If I hate a celebrity I won't waste my time reading or posting about her. I just skip those stories.

I feel the same way as you, pauline. I don't waste my time with people who don't interest me and I prefer to spend my time and energy on things that do interest me. I can't claim to understand that hateful insecure mindset, but I see it everywhere on the internet.

Ratings wise, the show is doing okay and has had some substantial increases in the last two episodes, which suggests some good word of mouth attracting more viewers. I'm going to watch Paris' cameo appearance with Craig Ferguson on March 2. I hope she will do well, just as well as she did on her first Paris for President comedy video on Funny or Die which was hilarious and got her tons of positive press from mainstream news media including CNN, ABC, CBS,etc. Also, it seems like she will be a guest at the regular hour show from 12:30-1:30. This can be a huge breakthrough for Paris.
