Paris Hilton honored at the National Humanitarian Award Luncheon in West Palm Beach

Reported by Palm Beach Daily News

A sold-out crowd packed The Mar-a-Lago Club as the American Humane Association honored Paris Hilton at its annual Humanitarian Luncheon.

The last of the season’s Be Humane events took place March 25 and honored the designer, reality show star and animal rights advocate for her charity work.

Lois Pope was chairwoman for the afternoon, which included a reception and silent auction, luncheon, the recognition of the honoree and entertainment by Clint Holmes with Jeffrey Neiman.

Hilton received the National Humanitarian Medal, the American Humane Association’s highest honor, for her support of charitable causes such as the Starlight Children’s Foundation, the LA Children’s Hospital, MusiCares, The Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes, Education Africa, Feeding America, Precious Paws, Soles4Souls and the Union Rescue Mission.

“Paris Hilton has given selflessly of her talent and her time to so many good causes, ranging from animal rescue to pediatric cancer,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane Association. “As an organization that works to help children and animals in their times of greatest need, we appreciate her efforts to gain global support for the major issues so that together we may make a difference.”

More than 350 people attended.

Proceeds from the event support the Palm Beach County-based Lois Pope Red Star Rescue team. The team’s new emergency response vehicle was onsite at the Mar-a-Lago Club and available for viewing. The 50-foot truck, which carries a contingent of trained Red Star volunteers and enough equipment to shelter 100 animals, already has deployed to assist in major disasters, including the Oklahoma tornadoes.
