Paris Hilton rep: Hairtech lawsuit is without merits
Reported by the Associated Press
Paris Hilton’s lawyers have said a $35 million lawsuit against the heiress lacks merit and vowed to put forward a spirited defence and a possible counter suit.
The 29-year-old socialite was sued in Los Angeles for allegedly breaching a contract to promote and wear hair extensions manufactured by Hairtech International. The company is seeking $35 million in damages, 10 times what it paid Hilton for her endorsement.
Spokeswoman Dawn Miller said Hilton’s lawyers have decided the lawsuit is without merits.
“There is no merit whatsoever to any of these claims. We will pursue all of our defenses vigorously and any potential counter claims,” she said in a statement.
Hairtech claimed Hilton did not wear the company’s extensions as promised and missed a launch party in 2007 because she was in jail.
It claims the damages from the missed appearance were at least $6.6 million.
Hilton served 23 days in jail in 2007 after she was caught driving twice on a suspended license while on probation for reckless driving.
A jury or judge will decide whether Hilton owes Hairtech any money if the case goes to trial.
