Paris Hilton targeted for gay remark

Reported by CNN

Paris Hilton’s comments about gay men who use a cell phone app for sexual hook ups were expressions of concern about the dangers of unprotected sex, not homophobic slurs, her publicist said Thursday.

The Hollywood socialite said, “Gay guys are the horniest people in the world,” called them “disgusting” and suggested “most of them probably have AIDS” in the short conversation secretly recorded by a New York cab driver two weeks ago, according to RadarOnline.

The online celebrity gossip site did not identify the driver or reveal how much, if anything, was paid for the recording published Thursday.

Hilton’s publicist, in a statement sent to CNN Thursday, confirmed the recording was authentic, but said, “It was not her intent to make any derogatory comments about all gays.”

“Paris Hilton is a huge supporter of the gay community and would never purposefully make any negative statements about anyone’s sexual orientation,” the statement said.

Hilton was riding in a cab with “an openly gay male model” during New York Fashion Week in the early morning hours of Friday, September 7, RadarOnline reported.

The gay friend was showing Hilton the iPhone app Grindr, which advertises itself as the “most popular all-male location-based social network out there,” offering “quick, convenient, and discreet” connections, RadarOnline reported.

“Say I log into Grindr, someone that’s on Grindr can be in that building and it tells you all the locations of where they are and you can be like, ‘Yo, you wanna f–k?’ and he might be on like, the sixth floor,” the male voice is heard saying.

“Ewww! Gay guys are the horniest people in the world,” Hilton said. “They’re disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS. … I would be so scared if I were a gay guy. You’ll like, die of AIDS.”

“Paris Hilton’s comments were to express that it is dangerous for anyone to have unprotected sex that could lead to a life threatening disease,” her publicist said.

RadarOnline was “only provided a portion of the conversation,” the statement said of the 50-second-long clip.

“The conversation became heated, after a close gay friend told her in a cab ride, a story about a gay man who has AIDS and is knowingly having unprotected sex,” the Hilton statement said. “He also discussed a website that encourages random sex by gay men with strangers. As she was being shown the website, her comments were in reference to those people promoting themselves on the site.”

At least this article is slightly more balanced, but it will still lead people to believe that she was calling ALL gay men disgusting, rather than the ones specifically on Grindr.

Pfff she has lots of gay friends, she does not care about that in particular.

But she IS right in saying that random unprotected sex with strangers is disgusting.
And probably most of the people who do that have nothing to lose because they already have the AIDS virus.

Apparently, her gay buddy explained how this gay hookup site works. So her commets were totally taken out of context.

i dont blame her at all. in my opinion shes completely right. Gay men ARE the horniest people in the world having significantly more sex than straight couples. and shes also completely right about the big amount of unprotected sex they have…there is a park near my home and at night many gays come there to have sex, most of them unprotected, as a gay friend of mine told me…so she only said the truth…it was said more like a warning to her friend i think…

What makes Paris’ comment so wrong is that the gay community is still struggling with false believes and lies. The stuff Paris said hurt MY feelings coz my best friend is gay, my brother is gay and several of my friends are gay. None of them have unprotected sex, all have a serious relationship and every single one of them hears comments like that everyday. Paris unfortunately lost huge amount of respect in my eyes. I thought she was smarter than that. A LOT smarter.

But she was having a private conversation. It’s not like she went on TV and said “I think all gay people have AIDS, tee-hee.” She was talking with a friend about the guys on Grindr. When you’re having a private chat like that, you’re not going to be PC and you’re going to use hyperbole. There is literally nothing for anyone to get offended about here.

Does she hate gays? Of course not. I dont know why she even felt she needed to apologize.
But I guess she really did not want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

Paris and her gay friend were having a bitch session, gays do it all the time.
Anyone who has gay friends knows this, it’s sitting around and shooting the breeze with no holds barred.

A few sites just tried to make more out of it than it really was. They always do that when it comes to Paris.
